Beastie Boys- License to Ill (1989)

Before the Beastie Boys were an obnoxious hip hop duo, they were an obnoxious punk rock duo that ruled really hard. this is their first album of loud guitar and fast drums and its so good. way better than brass monkey.

Deerhunter - On Platts Eyott Island (2008)

This recent and limited cassette release was recorded on September 15, 2008. It was meant as a tribute to John Peel, or something. Like, all the studio equipment was old, and stuff. Six of the seven tracks are reworked versions of existing Deerhunter songs, including Spring Hall Convert, Backspace Century, and four from Microcastle.

Beirut- Gulag Orkestar

Time and again, the most powerful element of Gulag Orkestar, and what ought to be emphasized, is Condon's acrobatic, powerful, emotionally nuanced voice. It could carry any style of music. Fixate for a second on the stuff he's doing on "Rhineland (Heartland)". The lyrics are dopey, but his trills and whirls are mind-blowing. Pairing these melodies with Eastern European accouterments in lieu of standard guitar-pop creates an obvious appeal. Still, the question ought to be asked: Are the songs really so incredible or do they simply mimic and mine musical traditions unfamiliar to the average indie rock fan? That said, the best songs here are a joy and the average and ho-hum tunes even have a thick and aesthetically appealing atmosphere-- in other words, it's an impressive and precocious debut.- Pitchfork

Best Coast-Where the boys are

"OK, so there's been much talk about this tape. This is the debut solo release is from Bethany Cosentino who used to be apart of Pocahaunted. Here Bethany heads solo style with some super sweet summertime lo-fi beach pop gems. There are some slight touches of Pocahaunted memories in there, with Bethany's total killer relaxed vocals and simplistic guitar jamming sounding as great as ever but in the new setting of late evening red sky beach bum bliss. 5 songs in just under 15 minutes to blast on the beach on your 80s ghetto blaster. Limited to 200 hand numbered copies, full colour covers, pro dubbed cassettes." -animalpsi

this is also a really great song that is not on the ep

where the wild things are

this movie looks like its going to be so good, im counting down the days till it comes out. everytime i see it, this trailer moves me a little and theres water in my eyes. arcade fire does the entire soundtrack, which is pretty radical too.

Andrew Bird- Oh! The Grandeur

Andrew Bird's second album Oh! The Grandeur  was released in 1999 and recorded in New Orleans. The album builds on the hot jazz vibe that Andrew Bird pioneered on their first album Thrills, but focuses more witty lyrics and deadpan delivery, as tracks like "Tea & Thorazine" and "The Idiot's Genius" display. Musically, Oh! The Grandeur keeps the live, one-take feeling of its predecessor, and Bird's fiddle playing is as expressive as ever. Andrew Bird's older albums are so much different then his newer releases, and i prefer his older much more.

Thanksgiving-Nothing

Nothing is, in my opinion, Adrian Orange's best album under the name Thanksgiving. Adrian turns simple acoustic melodies into stories that flow in and out of your body. This album is the opposite of Nothing.

Cat Power- You Are Free

truely a beautiful album. Chan Marshall voice makes me drift in the air and float gently down. She was awesome in concert, slowly getting more drunk as the night went on didn't make her any less wonderful.

read the books instead

oh man, i was so excited to see harry potter and the half blood prince, as it was my favorite book. we struggled to get tickets for the midnight showing and waited in line for two hours. I was severely disappointed with this film. two and a half hours and i was waiting for something else to happen, but nothing really did. i just hope the last film is better. im just going to re-read the books again, you should too, they're better then the films.

The Darjeeling Limited Soundtrack

Everything about this film is wonderful, definitey including the music. If you haven't seen this Wes Anderson classic, i highly suggest you do, and get this album as well.

No Age- Nouns

No Age is a lot of just loud lo-fi two piece guitar-drum explosion from Los Angeles. Fans of Japanther will probably dig this.
